IFPRI Plays Key Role in Organizing Event
Recent efforts by IFPRI, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and others have helped give agriculture a prominent place in the ongoing international climate change negotiations. However, it is essential to ensure that agriculture and forestry continue to be integrated into climate change policies, regardless of what happens at the 15th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will take place in December in Copenhagen. To maintain the momentum, the CGIAR’s Challenge Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security, with IFPRI as a key partner, is organizing Agriculture and Rural Development Day at the University of Copenhagen on December 12. The event aims to lay the groundwork for a work plan of strategies and actions that will see agriculture fully incorporated into the post-Copenhagen agenda, with discussions on adaptation and mitigation actions that will benefit small farmers, and well as the policies and institutions necessary to implement these plans.
