Rural Development and Poverty Reduction in the Peru, Ecuador, Guatamela and El Salvador

The overall objective of the project is to increase the productivity of the poor so that they can earn their way out of poverty. That will require investments and policy innovations to make various economic activities profitable. Because of the heterogeneity of the areas covered by the project, these activities and commodities will differ across different micro-regions within the country. Thus the objective of the project is not to choose specific products for development but rather to design a framework for policy interventions that overcome current bottlenecks faced by each of the identified regions within Peru, Ecuador, El Salvador and Guatemala. Finally, the project aims at providing a roadmap for the actions and investments that would be required to profitably realize these regions’ potential. The project aims also not only to develop the framework but also to validate it through pilot projects in specific areas which, once validated, can be transferred to other regions.
