Overview

IFPRI’s Eastern Africa Food Policy Network is organizing a two-day conference on smallholder agriculture development in Eastern Africa. About 80 participants from the following twelve countries will be participating: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The objectives of the conference are to:

The Network engages in a range of activities in policy research, capacity strengthening, and outreach, with a view to contributing to efforts to reduce poverty and improve food security and child nutrition, increase agricultural productivity, and promote sustainable use of natural resources in the region.

Since 1998, the network has supported several projects under its competitive grants program. A total of 31 projects have been supported across all 6 network countries. Most of the projects have been completed, yielding results of great policy relevance.
