HIV/AIDS and Food and Nutrition Security
From Evidence to Action
April 14-16, 2005, Durban, South Africa
Objectives
A global conference can provide a forum for the sharing of research and operational experience and provide a platform for better informed, large-scale action. The specific objectives of the conference are to:
- Enhance learning about the various interactions between HIV/AIDS and food and nutrition security;
- Enhance learning about what works under what conditions in addressing these interactions;
- Develop tools, mechanisms, guidelines and processes for addressing the policy and program implications of these interactions.
- Forge links a) between African organizations and those in other regions where HIV prevalence is rising, especially Asia; b) between different sectors (particularly public health and agriculture) for maximal synergy and impact; and c) between humanitarian and development perspectives and actors in this area (and relatedly between short and longer-term responses).
- Ultimately, to stimulate more effective action, on a greater scale.
