HIV/AIDS and Food and Nutrition Security
From Evidence to Action
April 14-16, 2005, Durban, South Africa

Objectives

A global conference can provide a forum for the sharing of research and operational experience and provide a platform for better informed, large-scale action. The specific objectives of the conference are to:

  1. Enhance learning about the various interactions between HIV/AIDS and food and nutrition security;
  2. Enhance learning about what works under what conditions in addressing these interactions;
  3. Develop tools, mechanisms, guidelines and processes for addressing the policy and program implications of these interactions.
  4. Forge links a) between African organizations and those in other regions where HIV prevalence is rising, especially Asia; b) between different sectors (particularly public health and agriculture) for maximal synergy and impact; and c) between humanitarian and development perspectives and actors in this area (and relatedly between short and longer-term responses).
  5. Ultimately, to stimulate more effective action, on a greater scale.
