Abstract

Martin J. Forman headed the Office of Nutrition at USAID for more than 20 years and the annual lecture, followed by reception, commemorates the significant impact he had on international nutrition. The annual lecturer is selected for his or her outstanding contribution in addressing malnutrition and is invited to present personal, often unconventional views about major issues relating to the field of international nutrition.

On January 16th 2008, The Lancet released a special series of articles addressing maternal and child undernutrition.  Therefore, for the 18th Lecture, the Forman Lecture Committee felt it would be appropriate to organize a thought provoking three-member panel discussion entitled "Controversies in Reducing Undernutrition - A debate on the Lancet Series on Maternal and Child Undernutrition" focusing on the Lancet special series from research, policy and programming perspectives.

Jean-Pierre Habicht, Graduate International Professor of Nutritional Epidemiology, Division of Nutritional Sciences, Cornell University; Julian Schweitzer, Director, Health, Nutrition and Population Department, The World Bank; and Marcia Griffiths, President, The Manoff Group, will present their views from research and programmatic perspectives respectively.

Kindly RSVP by February 19 to Simone Hill-Lee (s.hill-lee@cgiar.org; Tel: 202/862-8107).
