Strategic Advisory Council

Amid global financial and food crises, the need for cutting-edge policy research that provides policymakers with the evidence they need to make informed decisions has become critical. IFPRI provides that evidence, and has actively responded to the exploding demand for innovative strategies and policies aimed at achieving and ensuring sustainable food security in developing countries. This increased need has led to a period of significant growth and decentralization at IFPRI in recent years as the Institute has expanded its research activities and presence around the world to be closer to its clients. As a result of these external and internal dynamics, IFPRI has reached a point at which it would benefit tremendously from the input of thought leaders in international development—thinkers and doers who can help IFPRI further its mission within a rapidly changing landscape.

The IFPRI Strategic Advisory Council, created in September 2011, will provide insights and guidance on major strategic issues shaping the global landscape in which the Institute operates. In their two-year tenure, Council members will offer IFPRI overall strategic guidance, especially in revamping the IFPRI Strategy, and in preparing the new Global Food Policy Report, a yearly flagship publication to debut in spring 2012.
