Godfrey Bahiigwa joined IFPRI in September 2012 as a Research Fellow/ReSAKSS Coordinator for Africa. In December 2012, he was appointed Office Head of IFPRI’s Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Before joining IFPRI, he worked for five years as Director of the PMA Secretariat in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries in Uganda, supporting the Government of Uganda with agricultural policy and strategy formulation. Prior to that, he worked at ILRI and established the ReSAKSS node for Eastern and Central Africa. Before that, he spent eight years undertaking policy research at the Economic Policy Research Center (EPRC) as well as engaging with policy makers in Uganda. He has worked on various assignments in several countries, including Kenya, Rwanda, Swaziland, Uganda and Yemen. He has a wide network of contacts with continental and regional bodies, including AUC, NPCA, EAC, COMESA, IGAD and ASARECA. Godfrey holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA; a Master of Science degree in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota, USA; and a Bachelor of Science degree from Makerere University, Uganda. He is a Ugandan citizen.
