The Ethiopia Strategy Support Program (ESSP) is a collaborative program undertaken by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Ethiopian Development Research Institute (EDRI). Based on the successful program reviews of ESSP Phase I (September 2004 to June 2008) and ESSP Phase II (July 2008 to December 2013), IFPRI, EDRI and the consortium of donors funding ESSP (including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the UK Department for International Development (DfiD) agreed to extend the program to include a third phase, thus continuing the program’s activities from January 2014 to December 2016.
IFPRI’s vision is a world free of hunger and malnutrition. Its mission is to provide research-based policy solutions that reduce poverty, end hunger and malnutrition, and ensure environmental sustainability. In line with IFPRI’s mandate and vision, ESSP's objective is to help improve the policy-making process in Ethiopia and to increase the capacity of Ethiopian institutions to undertake sound economic analyis that is linked to current issues as well as to improve public engagement.
