Agricultural R&D in Sub-Saharan Africa

recent country briefs and datasets

During 2001-03, the Agricultural Science and Technology Indicators (ASTI) initiative, in close collaboration with the Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA), the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF/WECARD), several national agricultural research institutes (NARIs), and other partners, conducted survey rounds in 27 Sub-Saharan African countries. The objective of this survey was to collect, analyze, synthesize and disseminate information on recent institutional and investment developments in agricultural research and development (R&D). The information was collected through detailed questionnaires and follow-up interviews with all major public, private, and university actors engaged in agricultural R&D.

This CD contains a set of 26 country briefs that were prepared based on the survey data as well as other sources. It also provides the underlying snapshot data and country profiles for these 26 Sub-Saharan African countries, including all agricultural R&D agencies that were identified in the national survey rounds. Finally, this CD also contains a short regional synthesis paper. A more detailed regional analysis will be published by IFPRI by mid-2005.” — from Text
