This draft report presents a first attempt to summarize the research findings of the Pathways from Poverty Research Program, launched in 2003 by the Poverty, Health and Nutrition Division at IFPRI. This program used longitudinal data on individuals, households and communities, to understand the policies, interventions and other factors that lead to sustainable poverty reduction and nutritional improvements. The program then used these findings to inform the development of effective policies that reduce hunger and poverty. Put simply, the program sought to understand why people do or do not get ahead, and how public policy can help in these efforts.
