Book by IFPRI Researcher Addresses Natural Resource Economics in India

India has a long history of teaching and research in theoretical and applied economics. Although India has some excellent natural resource economists, only in the last few years have universities and research organizations initiated specific programs for teaching and research in this field. Natural Resource Economics: Theory and Application in India, edited by IFPRI Research Fellow John M. Kerr, Dinesh K. Marothia, Katar Singh, C. Ramasamy, and William R. Bentley was published to support the natural resource economics teaching programs emerging throughout India and in the develop- ing world.

The book is organized under three major headings: concepts, methods, and applications. It provides a comprehensive look at natural resource management in India that is useful for students of natural resource economics, and it presents case studies that are useful for policymakers, resource managers, and other professionals. The case studies and examples of Indian natural resource management problems throughout the book distinguish this text from other natural resource economics books. It includes 33 contributing authors, mostly from India.
