Doris Wiesmann, a citizen of Germany, joined the Food Consumption and Nutrition Division at IFPRI in August 2005 as a postdoctoral fellow. Doris previously worked as a free-lance consultant for FAO and other international organizations in the areas of food security, health, and nutrition in developing and transition countries. At the Center for Development Research (ZEF) in Bonn, she did research on the measurement of food security and nutrition, community-based health insurance in low-income countries, and health and living standards in Khorezm, Uzbekistan. Doris received a PhD in Nutrition and Food Economics from the University of Bonn in 2002 and holds an M.S. and a B.A. in Nutrition and Food Economics from the University of Kiel, Germany.
