Teunis van Rheenen, a citizen from The Netherlands, is the Coordinator for Partnerships & Impact Assessment. In this capacity, he gives guidance to the development of new partnerships and networks. He also supervises the impact assessment of major projects and programs at IFPRI. This effort aims to ensure accountability of IFPRI to its clients, maintain credibility with clients, improve IFPRI's internal decision making process and its capacity to learn from past experiences, and ensure that IFPRI's work continues to remain relevant and useful in a rapidly changing world. He is also IFPRI's Secretary to the Board of Trustees.
Before joining IFPRI, Teunis was a Senior Economist at the Agricultural Economics Research Institute in The Hague, The Netherlands, focusing on issues related to nature and economy. In this capacity, he provided leadership to numerous national and international projects, and participated in many fundraising efforts. Prior to this, he worked at the University of Goettingen in a project studying natural resource management issues in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. He has an extensive knowledge of Africa and worked as the Scientific Coordinator of the Antenne Sahelienne Program in Burkina Faso for 4 years. For his PhD, which he obtained from the Wageningen Agricultural University, he studied farm-level optimal resource allocation in East Java, Indonesia.
