Elias Zerfu, a citizen of Ethiopia, joined IFPRI in June 2005 as a senior training and research officer with IFPRI’s Learning and Capacity Strengthening program. He is based in Addis Ababa with the ISNAR division. Prior to joining IFPRI, he worked as a training advisor in a USAID-sponsored project implemented by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. His work focused on agricultural research, extension, watershed management, and micro-enterprise development. Previously, he worked for the Ethiopian Agricultural Research Organization (EARO) in training and technology transfer related areas, including as coordinator of EARO’s research, extension, and farmer linkage program.
Elias holds a Ph.D. in agricultural extension from the University of Agricultural Sciences, India. His current areas of research include assessing training needs, evaluating learning and capacity strengthening, approaches and methods of learning and capacity strengthening among farmer groups, and modes of partnership with learning institutions.
