Fabiana Moura is a Nutritionist Research Fellow at HarvestPlus responsible for managing the nutrition research component of 4 biofortified crops: banana, cassava, sorghum, and rice under the auspices of the Grand Challenges in Global Health, a program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Before joining HarvestPlus, Fabiana investigated the metabolism of beta-carotene, lutein, and vitamin E in humans by using minute doses of radioisotopes. She also worked as a Scientist Writer at the Life Sciences Research Office (LSRO) where she worked with independent panels of experts evaluating the scientific evidence on the health benefits of certain foods to establish a health claim on food labels.
Fabiana obtained her Ph.D. in Nutrition from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her bachelor’s and master’s degree are in Food Science from two accredited Universities in Brazil, Federal University of Vicosa (UFV) and State University of Campinas (UNICAMP).
