Futoshi Yamauchi joined IFPRI in 2002, after working as a lecturer at the Institute of Economic Research, Kyoto University and as an associate professor at the International Graduate School of Social Sciences, Yokohama National University. In 2003-2006, he was an adjunct faculty at the Foundation for Advanced Studies on International Development (FASID) and the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Tokyo. His fields of research are development economics, labor economics and applied microecnomics. He has worked on the formation of human capital in South Africa and the assessment of HIV/AIDS impacts on human capital formation and labor markets in sub-sahara African countries. Recently he has examined the roles of various infrastructures and human capital in poverty alleviation in Indonesia by conducting a large household survey. His research interests also include social learning in disequilibrium situations such as Green Revolution. Futoshi, a citizen of Japan, received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and M.A. in economics and B.A. in law both from Hitotsubashi University.
