After obtaining a PhD in Economics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, Karl Pauw joined the Development Strategy and Governance Division in Washington DC in June 2009. In August 2010 he transferred to the Malawi Strategy Support Program in Lilongwe, where he is involved in policy analysis, technical support to the Ministry of Agriculture, and capacity building among policymakers, researchers, and students. His research interests include: development and agricultural policy analysis; microeconomic analyses of labor markets, poverty, welfare, and nutrition; CGE modeling and micro-simulation modeling; ex ante evaluation of distributional effects of macro- and micro-policies; and economic impacts and mitigation of climate change and extreme weather events.
