Karl joined IFPRI in June 2009 as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Before coming to IFPRI, he was a researcher at the Development Policy Research Unit at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. For his Ph.D., obtained in 2009 from the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town, he evaluated the poverty and distributional effects of minimum wages and wage subsidies in South Africa using a CGE-micro-simulation model. Karl attended the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa for his undergraduate studies where he majored in Mathematical Statistics and Economics. During his postgraduate studies he was a visiting student at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.
