Klaus Droppelmann joined IFPRI in June 2009 as Senior Program Coordinator in the Malawi Strategy Support Program (MaSSP). Since September 2010 is also the acting Country Program Leader of the MaSSP. In his work Klaus focuses on institutional capacity building of MaSSP’s key partner institution, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security providing support to agricultural statistics and sector performance monitoring systems as well as strategy development and policy processes. His research interest concentrates on climate smart agricultural production systems to achieve sustainable food security and development. Klaus also works closely with Bunda College in Malawi to strengthen its capacity to feed policy relevant research outputs into the policy making process.

Before joining IFPRI, Klaus worked in Zambia for the Agricultural Consultative Forum as Monitoring and Evaluation Expert and the German Development Cooperation as Agricultural Advisor. His academic background is in tropical plant production with specialization in water-harvesting and agro-forestry technologies which he applied in Israel and Kenya. He holds an MSc degree from University of Hohenheim and a PhD degree from the University of Bayreuth in Germany.
