Vida Alpuerto joined IFPRI as a Senior Research Assistant in DSGD. She conducts research on public investment for poverty reduction and spatial assessment of food security.

She is from the Philippines and received her undergraduate degree in Economics from University of the Philippines (Los Baños). Upon graduation, she worked at the Socioeconomic Division of the Philippine Rice Research Institute. She pursued her MS in Agricultural and Applied Economics at Virginia Tech. She has been involved in impact evaluation of agricultural technologies such as genetically modified rice in the Philippines, and rice with tolerance to saline and phosphorus deficient soils in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
