About ECAPAPA

The Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) is devoted to enhancing the productivity, value added, and competitiveness of the regional agricultural system to help increase economic growth and improve social welfare while enhancing the quality of the environment in Eastern and Central Africa.

The Eastern and Central Africa Programme for Agricultural Policy (ECAPAPA) is ASARECA's policy analysis program. ECAPAPA convenes agricultural policy research, analysis, and formulation aimed at facilitating an enabling agricultural policy environment for agricultural transformation.

The ECAPAPA-IFPRI Food Policy Research Program was launched in April, 2005, during a conference on The Future of Smallholder Farming in East Africa in Entebbe.

Program Governance

The ECAPAPA-IFPRI Food and Agricultural Policy Research Program is jointly managed by ECAPAPA and IFPRI under its Development Strategy and Governance (DSG) Division. A Regional Advisory Committee comprising high-level policymakers and senior researchers from participating countries provides broad oversight, ensures relevance, and promotes research-policy linkages. A Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), drawn largely from the region but also including experts from elsewhere in the world, reviews proposed work plans and monitors the implementation of research activities.
