IMPACT is recognized as a leading agricultural sector model for assessing the global food situation, and has been applied to a wide variety of contexts for medium- and long-term policy analysis of global food markets. In addition to work undertaken under IFPRI's medium-term research plan, the model has been used in specific projects for international organizations, including the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the FAO and national governments. More recently, IMPACT has been used for assessing future food supplies, demand, and trade (out to 2050) under the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment. Moreover, IMPACT-WATER has been used to analyze the role of agriculture in meeting the Millennium Development Goals. In 2002/2003, IFPRI commissioned an evaluation of the IMPACT modeling framework.
