  5. International Year of Freshwater 2003
    The International Year of Freshwater (IYFW) was officially launched at the United Nations in New York on December 12, 2002. The aim of the IYFW is to raise awareness of the importance of protecting and managing freshwater. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has set up a special website, which provides a platform for countries and individuals all over the world to share their ideas, initiatives, and events for the Year 2003.     The Biotech Mentor's kit is a set of PowerPoint transparencies on biotechnology for use by speakers from academic institutions and government agencies.     The RIS, located in New Delhi, India, pursues work relating to global issues in the field of international economic relations and development co-operation among developing countries. It also aims to forge and maintain a system of effective links among research institutions of these countries for effective policy co-ordination.
