European System of Cooperative Research Networks in Agriculture (ESCORENA)
The ESCORENA, established in 1974 by FAO and European research institutions, comprises 13 cooperative research networks. Research categories include Crops (crop production, economics, and genetic resources); Agri-Environment (processes that improve the sustainability of various agricultural production sectors); and Food and Nutrition. ESCORENA's objectives are promoting exchange of information and experimental data; supporting joint, applied research; facilitating exchange of experts, germplasm, and technologies; establishing close links between European researchers and institutions working on the same subject to stimulate interaction; and accelerating the transfer of European technology advances to developing countries.
