  3. DAD: Software for Distributive Analysis
    This software is designed to facilitate the analysis and the comparison of social welfare, inequality, poverty, and equity. Its features include estimations of many indices and curves useful for distributive comparisons. Special features provide asymptotic standard errors to enable statistical inference, basic descriptive statistics, and simple non-parametric estimations of density functions and regressions.   4. Foreign Direct Investment, Economic Opening, and Agrifood Development
    This symposium, initially scheduled for September 5-7, 2003, in Bucharest has been postponed until Spring 2004.     A joint initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), this web site presents data from a network of institutions dedicated to analyzing and mapping the spatial distribution of poverty; produces and promotes the use of poverty maps and shows linkages among poverty, food insecurity, the environment, and development; and promotes the use of poverty maps in to make policy and target assistance.   6. Agricultural Biotechnology, Poverty Reduction, and Food Security

Its goal is to help local communities understand and identify potential protection mechanisms already present in current intellectual property rights (IPR) regimes and the public domain for traditional knowledge.     Special Programme for Food Security
    The Special Programme for Food Security (SPFS) is an FAO initiative unanimously approved by the 106th Session of the FAO Council in June 1994. The objective of the SPFS is to help low-income food deficit countries (LIFDCs) to improve food security both at national and at household levels through rapid increases in food production and productivity by reducing year-to-year variability in production on an economically and environmentally sustainable basis, and by improving people's access to food.     Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa
    The Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) was established in Kampala, Uganda, in November 1993. This is a non-political organization of the National Agricultural Research Institutes (NARIs) of 10 countries: Burundi, D. R. Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. ASARECA's mission is to increase the efficiency of agricultural research in the region so as to facilitate economic growth, food security, and export competitiveness through productive and sustainable agriculture.
