  1. Assuring Food and Nutrition Security in Africa by 2020: Prioritizing Actions, Strengthening Actors, and Facilitating Partnerships

  2. Call for Papers: Resources, Energy, and Development
    Resources, Energy, and Development is an international journal focusing on research and integration of knowledge at the interface between resources and development. The journal accepts papers dealing with theoretical and methodological issues and case studies relating to the interrelationships between development, human activity, and resource use.   3. AgEcon Search Seeks Working Papers
    AgEcon Search collects, indexes, and electronically distributes full text copies of scholarly research in the field of agricultural economics, agribusiness, food supply, natural resource economics, environmental economics, policy issues, agricultural trade, and economic development. AgEcon Search seeks working and conference papers for posting on their web site. There is no charge for posting departmental/ institutional working papers on AgEcon Search. There may be a small per paper fee for posting conference papers. AgEcon Search contains the full text of over 11,000 working papers, conference papers, and journal articles from over 70 groups on 6 continents. Materials may be read and downloaded by anyone with Web access.   4. FAO E-mail Conference: What should be the role and focus of biotechnology in the agricultural research agendas of developing countries?
    The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations' (FAO's) Biotechnology Forum hosted this e-mail conference from November 13 to December 16, 2002. The summary document of the conference is available on the web. The 14-page document aims to provide an easy-to-read synopsis of the main issues and concerns discussed by participants during the conference.   5. FAO E-mail Conference: Biotechnology Applications in Food Processing: Can Developing Countries Benefit?
    The FAO Electronic Forum on Biotechnology in Food and Agriculture, launched in March 2000, will devote its eleventh e-mail conference to the theme of biotechnology in food processing in developing countries.   6. Food and Nutrition Library (FNL)
    The University of Waikato, New Zealand, has developed FNL 2.2, which contains 600+ publications in the fields of food, nutrition, food processing, food policy, and nutrition research. Its objective is to provide those involved in the areas of food, nutrition, and food policy access to a comprehensive library containing multidisciplinary insight about solutions to problems facing the poor. It includes publications from the United Nations University, UN System Standing Committee on Nutrition, the World Food Programme, GTZ-GATE, NS-BOSTID, Peace Corps, IFPRI, and others.   7. Agriculture Investment Sourcebook
    The Agriculture and Rural Development Department of the World Bank is launching the new online Agriculture Investment Sourcebook. It provides guidance on the priorities and approaches that the public sector, private sector, and civil society can use to enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the agricultural sector in ways that reduce rural poverty and sustain the natural resource base. The Sourcebook features 11 modules based on different aspects of agricultural investment. Each module provides an overview of the issue, Agriculture Investment Notes detailing the important subpoints, and Innovative Activity Profiles on emerging approaches.   • Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA)
    CRIDA is located in Hyderabad, India, and conducts comprehensive and multidisciplinary research in dryland agriculture to develop appropriate technologies for efficient management and utilization of natural resources to improve the productivity of these areas. CRIDA's mission includes conservation, efficient resource utilization, and enhancement of the quality of natural resources to achieve sustainability; reduction of the risks associated with uncertain rainfall; increased productivity for food and nutrition security; diversification of land use for additional employment opportunities; and assurance of socio-economic growth for farmers in drylands. NETWORK PROFILE

  • Poverty and Economic Policy (PEP) Research Network
    PEP Research Network, which receives funding from the International Development Research Centre, Canada, brings together and provide technical and financial support to developing country researchers working to reduce poverty. Its objectives are to better understand the causes and consequences of poverty; propose alternative/accompanying policies to reduce poverty; improve the monitoring and measurement of poverty; develop local research and training; and develop new concepts and methodologies. PEP is composed of three constituent networks: Poverty Monitoring, Measurement, and Analysis, which develops and applies analytical tools to monitor, measure, and analyze a wide range of poverty issues; Modeling and Policy Impact Analysis, which uses economy-wide models and analysis as a "laboratory" to identify and analyze the links between specific policies and shocks and their eventual impacts on poverty; and Community-Based Monitoring System, which designs and pilots community-based monitoring and local development systems of poverty.
