ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. New book by IFPRI Researcher
Food Regulation and Trade: Toward a Safe and Open Global System
This book, published by the Institute for International Economics, examines current agricultural and food regulations and their effect on trade. The authors discuss the efficacy and compatibility of countries' food regulations and analyze the tensions that have emerged from increased regulation based on production processes as well as final content. They assess the need for strengthening the rules of the World Trade Organization and other international institutions charged with oversight of national policies and recommend other ways in which regulation can enhance the benefits of an open food system. For more information, visit http://www.ifpri.org/pubs/otherpubs/foodregtrade.htm.

  2. IFPRI Dataset
    Ethiopia Rural Household Survey (ERHS)
The Ethiopia Rural Household Survey (ERHS) is a longitudinal household data set covering 1477 households in several rural Ethiopian villages. IFPRI, in collaboration with Addis Ababa University and University of Oxford, conducted this survey from 1989 to 1997 in four rounds, covering several peasant associations. The survey includes household characteristics, agriculture and livestock information, food consumption, health, and women's activities, as well as community-level data on electricity and water, sewage and toilet facilities, health services, education, NGO activity, migration, wages, and production and marketing. The study was sponsored by the Economic and Social Research Council, the Swedish International Development Agency, the United States Agency for International Development, and the World Bank. For ordering information, visit http://www.ifpri.org/data/ethiopia02.htm.

  3. Agriculture & Industry Survey
Agriculture & Industry Survey (India), an agribusiness magazine, provides a wealth of news, information, and ideas for entrepreneurs in agricultural businesses. It covers in detail agribusiness success stories and provides answers to many questions: How do entrepreneurs begin? How do they arrange for bank funding? What are their marketing strategies? What are the problems they experience? How do they overcome these problems? What are the new opportunities in Indian agribusiness? For more information, visit http://www.agricultureinformation.com/indiaroom/html/magazine.html.

  4. Basic Workbook in Intellectual Property Management
The Institute of International Agriculture at Michigan State University has launched this new online training handbook on property rights. It provides basic information on the management of intellectual property and answers questions about the types of agreements used in transferring intellectual property from one entity to another. It provides a basis for organizations to develop standard intellectual property transfer agreements that are in accordance with each country's laws.
