ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. IFPRI Dataset
    Egypt Integrated Household Survey, 1997-1999

The 1997 and 1999 Egypt Integrated Household Survey (EIHS) was undertaken by the International Food Policy Research Institute in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and the Ministry of Trade and Supply of the Government of Egypt.

The 1997 questionnaire was administered to 2,500 households from 20 governorates using a two-stage, stratified selection process from March through May 1997. The dataset contains household information on housing characteristics, access to facilities, migration, subsidized food expenses, all food expenses, non-food expenses, health, anthropometrics, maternity history, childcare, wage employment, farming, livestock ownership, non-farm enterprises, credit and savings, remittances and transfers, and other income. In addition to the household level data, data were collected on the overall characteristics of the community/villages containing the surveyed households.

The EIHS 1999 survey was conducted on a sub-sample (348 households) of the 1997 survey. The EIHS 1999 household questionnaire collected information on the household, housing characteristics, income sources, food expenses, non-food expenses, farming, livestock ownership, non-farm enterprises, non-farming assets, other income sources, and subsidized food expenses. For ordering information, visit http://www.ifpri.org/data/Egypt04.htm.

  2. Agricultural Science and Technology Indicators
The Agricultural Science and Technology Indicators (ASTI) initiative compiles, processes, and makes available internationally comparable data on institutional developments and investments in agricultural research and development worldwide. The initiative makes available a large amount of original and ongoing survey work focused on developing countries, but also enables access to relevant data for developed countries produced by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Science and Technology Indicators unit, the U.S. National Science Foundation, and other similar agencies. ASTI’s work involves collaborative alliances with a large number of national and regional research and development agencies as well as international institutions. For more information, visit http://www.asti.cgiar.org/index.htm.
