ANNOUNCEMENTS
- IFPRI Dataset
Uganda: Social Accounting Matrix, 1999
The 1999 Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) for Uganda was constructed to meet the economywide modeling requirements undertaken by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) "Strategic Criteria for Rural Investments in Productivity (SCRIP)" project. The SAM has a detailed treatment of the agriculture sector, in terms of both disaggregation by crop and by region (six agro-climatic zones). In addition, the SAM distinguishes between consumption out of own production by households and marketed consumption. Furthermore, the SAM explicitly accounts for transactions costs associated with domestic, import, and export marketing. For more information and access to this dataset, visit www.ifpri.org/data/uganda04.htm
- IFPRI Software
International Model for Policy Analysis of Agricultural Commodities and Trade (IMPACT) Software
Given the widespread interest in the projections of the world food situation from IFPRI’s International Model for Policy Analysis of Agricultural Commodities and Trade (IMPACT), the institute has developed a distributable version of the model and made it available on the IFPRI website. Users can download the IMPACT Distributed Version (or IMPACT-D) and use it to develop and run their own scenario analyses. IMPACT-D currently includes 36 world regions and 32 commodities and allows users to adjust assumptions for growth in (1) yield, (2) crop area/herd size, (3) irrigation, (4) population, and (5) national income by time period (for assumptions made for 1, 2 and 4), by country/region (for all assumptions), and by commodity (for assumptions made for 1–3). For more information, visit www.ifpri.org/themes/impact/impactd.asp.
