ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. IFPRI Dataset
Nicaragua: Red de Protección Social (RPS) Evaluación Dataset, 2000-2002
The Nicaraguan Red de Protección Social (RPS), modeled after PROGRESA in Mexico, is a program designed to address both current and future poverty via cash transfers targeted to households living in poverty in rural Nicaragua. This household survey was conducted in collaboration with RPS and the Inter-American Development Bank. The survey sample is a stratified random-sample at the comarca (administrative locality) level from all 42 comarcas in Nicaragua. The comprehensive household questionnaire was based on the 1998 Nicaraguan LSMS (Living Standards Measurement Study) instrument. The community questionnaire was used to assess whether the community has basic infrastructure; health, educational, and postal services; sources of credit; and other development programs working in the area; and whether the community has experienced major economic events/shocks. For ordering information, visit http://www.ifpri.org/data/Nicaragua01.asp.

  2. Agricultural R&D in Sub-Saharan Africa: Recent Country Briefs and Datasets
The Agricultural Science and Technology Indicators (ASTI) initiative at IFPRI recently released individual briefs and datasets for countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. The CD-Rom contains a set of 26 country briefs describing the state of agricultural R&D in those countries. It also provides the underlying snapshot data and country profiles for these 26 countries, including the agricultural R&D agencies that were identified in the national survey rounds. For ordering the CD-ROM, visit http://www.ifpri.org/pubs/pubs.htm#asticd or to download individual briefs in PDF, visit http://www.asti.cgiar.org/pubs-africa.htm.
