Argentina: Social Accounting Matrix, 2000
The Argentina Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) was prepared by Gerardo Luis Petri and Maximiliano Méndez Parra of the Secretaria de Agricultura, Ganaderia, Pesca y Alimentos. It disaggregates sectors of the 1997 Argentina Input-Output Matrix (MIPA 97), built by Argentina's Statistics and Census Institute. This dataset is the best input-output matrix for Argentina. Since the MIPA 97 shows the transactions of the whole Argentine economy, the disaggregation process was focused on the opening of the agri-food sectors. The SAM has two parts. In the first part, the disaggregation or opening of the MIPA 97 was made using cost structures for the year 1997. Then, once the new matrix's technical coefficients were obtained, the upgrade to the year 2000 was done. For ordering information, visit http://www.ifpri.org/data/Argentina01.asp. - IFPRI Material
South Asia: Agricultural and Rural Development
This IFPRI booklet provides an overview of the proceedings of seminars held in March 2005 in New Delhi, Lahore, Chennai, and Dhaka along with some supplementary material on IFPRI’s activities and strategies in the South Asian region. It also includes a speech by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. For more information, visit http://www.ifpri.org/pubs/books/oc47.asp. - Building on Gender, Agrobiodiversity and Local Knowledge: A Training Manual
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has produced this training manual. It focuses on the linkages between local knowledge systems; gender roles and relationships; the conservation and management of agrobiodiversity; plant and animal genetic resources; and food security. The manual is useful as a conceptual guide for trainers; as a resource material for participants in training courses mainly researchers and extension workers; and as reference material for others working within the context of agrobiodiversity management, gender, and local knowledge. The manual is divided into five modules. Each module contains fact sheets covering key aspects of and linkages between agrobiodiversity, gender, and local knowledge with short examples and lists of key points. It also contains additional sheets to allow trainers to adapt their programs to the situation and demands of the participants. The manual includes some exercises to encourage participants to bring in their own experiences, share their ideas, and apply them to their own work situation. For more information, visit http://www.fao.org/sd/links/documents_download/Manual.pdf. - Global Competitiveness Report 2005-2006
The Global Competitiveness Report was produced by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with leading academics and a global network of 122 partner institutes. It has expanded its geographic coverage over the years and now assesses 117 economies. This is a valuable tool for shaping economic policy and guiding investment decisions. It is one of the leading monitors of the competitive condition of economies worldwide. It provides an opportunity to examine some of the key economic issues confronting the international community. For more information, visit http://www.weforum.org/en/initiatives/gcp/Global%20Competitiveness%20Report/GlobalCompetitivnessReport. - Community & Participatory Mapping Toolbox
The toolbox, which is part of the Integrated Approaches to Participatory Development (IAPAD) website, provides information and resources on participatory mapping with an emphasis on Participatory 3-D Modeling (P3DM). This online resource provides an overview of the tools available to organizations who want to implement participatory or community mapping programs. It also provides clarification on many of the terms and technologies used in the field. For more information, visit http://www.iapad.org/toolbox.htm.
Institution Profile
- International Center for Research on Women (ICRW)
ICRW is a private, nonprofit organization, dedicated to improving the lives of women in poverty; advancing equality and human rights; and contributing to broader economic and social well-being. ICRW accomplishes this, in partnership with others, through research, capacity building, and advocacy on issues affecting women's economic, health, and social status in low- and middle-income countries. Its focus is on improving women's status by conducting research and analysis; translating research into policy and action options; advocating and building support for policies by informing experts, leaders, and policymakers; providing guidance and "actionable insight" to strengthen organizational programs; and working with women and communities by partnering with other organizations to bring about social change. For more information, visit http://www.icrw.org/.
Network Profile
- Regional Network on HIV/AIDS, Rural Livelihoods and Food Security (RENEWAL)
RENEWAL, facilitated by IFPRI, was launched in 2001. RENEWAL brings together national networks of researchers, policymakers, and public, private, and nongovernmental organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa to focus on the interactions between HIV/AIDS and food and nutrition security and their implications for policy and programming. It is a growing regional network-of-networks comprised of food and nutrition-relevant organizations working together with partners in AIDS and public health organizations in Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, South Africa, and Kenya. RENEWAL aims to enhance understanding of the worsening interactions between HIV/AIDS and food and nutrition security, and to facilitate a comprehensive response to these interactions. The core pillars are locally prioritized action research, capacity strengthening, and policy communications. For more information, visit http://www.ifpri.org/renewal.
