  2. IFPRI Dataset
    Malawi: Social Accounting Matrix (SAM), 1998

    The 1998 Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) for Malawi is now available. Prepared by Peter Wobst in collaboration with Osten Chulu of the Agricultural Policy Research Unit at the University of Malawi, it includes 38 productive activities and 3 distribution activities (trade and transport margins). Of the 38 productive activities, 11 are agricultural, 18 manufacturing, and 9 are service activities. The SAM also distinguishes between small-scale and large-scale activities in three agricultural sectors: tea, coffee, and other crops. There are 8 labor categories distinguished by type of occupation and level of education; 2 land factors (small scale and large scale); and 3 capital factors. The SAM also distinguishes 14 household types, 3 enterprise accounts, 2 government accounts, an investment/saving account, and a rest-of-the-world account.

  3. CANCELLED  Brown Bag on Capacity Strengthening
    The International Service for National Agricultural Research (ISNAR) division of IFPRI is hosting a brown bag on "Building Capacity in Managing Sustainable Development in Asia and Europe" by Mr. Konrad von Ritter. Mr. von Ritter is the Sector Manager of the Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Development Division of the World Bank Institute. The brown bag will take place at IFPRI (2033 K Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20006) on June 29, 2006 in conference room 4A from 12:30 PM-2:00PM.   4. Book: Agricultural Development Policy: Concepts and Experiences
    Agricultural Development Policy: Concepts and Experiences, prepared under the guidance of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), presents a systematic review of important classes of policy issues in developing countries and discusses the emerging international consensus on viable approaches to those issues. The topics covered include agriculture's role in economic development, the objectives and strategies of agricultural policy, linkages between macroeconomic and agricultural policy, policies for the agricultural financial system, and agricultural technology development. It is currently available in English and Spanish, and will soon be available in French and Arabic.

    Outreach 2015 is a daily newsletter produced by the Stakeholder Forum for a Sustainable Future that reports from the conference floor at key international sustainable development meetings and provides political analysis, coverage of side events, and stakeholder views.

  6. Online Project Directory: Accessible Information on Development Activities (AiDA)
    AiDA is jointly managed by Development Gateway, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development/Development Co-operation Directorate, the World Bank, and the United Nations Development Programme. It is the largest online directory of worldwide development projects and activities, and offers a quick overview of who is doing what in international development, where they are doing it, and with what funds. Information is harvested from major bilateral donors, multilateral development banks, and UN agencies. The directory is searchable by country, sector, or donor.

  7. Capacity Development Resources: EASYPol (FAO)
    EASYPol is an online, interactive, multilingual repository of downloadable resource materials for capacity development in policymaking for food, agriculture, and rural development. EASYPol materials are developed and maintained by the Agricultural Policy Support Service of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The interrelated and cross-linked modules are organized by topic, type, and training paths, and can be accessed through user-friendly search facilities.
