Poverty, food insecurity, and poor nutrition and health are among the most pernicious problems eroding quality of life and limiting economic productivity. IFPRI’s Poverty, Health, and Nutrition Division (PHND) examines the main drivers of these problems and identifies effective strategies to improve the lives of poor populations in developing countries. PHND studies the role of a broad range of social protection, agriculture, health, and education programs and policies in reducing poverty and enhancing nutrition, health, and education outcomes. Gender is central to this research, including identifying innovative ways to empower women and improve nutrition for women and children. This work contributes to IFPRI’s 2018–2020 Strategy, particularly in the strategic research area on (1) promoting healthy diets and nutrition for all and (2) cross-cutting theme on gender.
