The ‘Agricultural Transformation and Market Integration in the ASEAN region’ (ATMI-ASEAN) project was launched in 2016 in response to concerns surrounding food security and inclusivity throughout the ASEAN region. This project is funded by the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and co-implemented by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).

Structural transformation in Southeast Asia poses challenges to the region’s food security and inclusive agricultural growth agenda. The integration of agricultural markets within ASEAN is high on the policy agenda given the current pressure on moving towards the establishment of a common market by the end of 2015. ATMI-ASEAN focuses on strengthening the capacity of targeted ASEAN Member States (AMS) to develop policies and programs addressing the issues of food security and agricultural development and enhancing the cooperation among AMS in the areas of R&D, food safety, and quality standards, as well as encouraging investments in food and agrifood based industries, which benefit smallholder farmers, poor urban and rural households.
