Panama America published an article on how COVID-19 will disrupt the food supply and potentially cause global food shortages. Director General Johan Swinnen stated “There is no global food shortage or mass famine from the pandemic, yet. But logistics problems in planting, harvesting, and transporting food will leave poor countries unprotected in the coming months, especially those dependent on imports.” Systems in developing countries "are very labor-intensive making these supply chains much more vulnerable to COVID-19 and to the regulations of social distancing. ”
