Eliot Jones-Garcia

Eliot Jones-Garcia is a Senior Research Analyst with the Natural Resources and Resilience Unit based in Washington, DC. His research focuses on human-AI interaction, user-centered design, and the ethical and responsible development of AI. Eliot is currently finalizing a PhD on the digitalization of agricultural advisory services at Wageningen University & Research.

How not to respond to a global food crisis (Bloomberg)

Bloomberg published an op-ed by the Bloomberg editors stating that food prices have risen to record levels around the world, fueling poverty, hunger, and political instability. While there are no quick fixes to the crisis, better-off countries should at least strive not to make it worse. This op-ed included a figure created by IFPRI, titled, “The World’s Most Vulnerable: Share of agricultural imports affected by export restrictions.” The data are calculated on a caloric basis for distinct economies.
