Every year, the United Nations chooses a new theme to focus people’s attention when it comes to thinking about our planet’s water resources. This year, they selected “Water and Food Security”- a topic near and dear to the hearts of IFPRI and its many stakeholders throughout the world.

As part of its celebrations for World Water Day 2012, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has assembled a list of Frequently Asked Questions related to water and food security including Why is water a key to food security? How much water is needed to produce our food? and other key questions.

Meanwhile, IFPRI’s water research aims to reduce poverty by improving overall water use efficiency in developing countries while improving water quality, reducing irrigated land degradation, increasing food security, and improving access to water by the poor.
