Rooted in Biodiversity: Transforming Agriculture through Nature-Positive Solutions

Organized by the CGIAR Program/accelerator Multifunctional Landscapes

December 11, 2025

  • 2:00 – 3:30 pm (America/New_York)
  • 8:00 – 9:30 pm (Europe/Amsterdam)
  • 12:30 – 2:00 am (Asia/Kolkata)

Agriculture is both a major driver of biodiversity loss and a crucial part of the solution. This session will present research and evidence underpinning the forthcoming World Bank report Rooted: Agriculture Rooted in Biodiversity, which identifies strategies and investment pathways to harness biodiversity for resilient agricultural systems. By showcasing sustainable practice bundles, the economics of their adoption, and enabling policy reforms, the event will demonstrate how locally tailored transitions can be scaled globally in alignment with NDCs, NBSAPs, and the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Discussions will explore how nature-positive practices can be adapted to diverse local contexts, emphasizing the implementation of scaling strategies through programmes on Multifunctional Landscapes and CGIAR digital innovations by linking geospatial baselines, monitoring, and finance to verified on-the-ground action. Spatial analysis will also be featured as a key tool to identify priority areas, guide restoration planning, and track biodiversity and climate outcomes across landscapes.
