Danielle Resnick

Danielle Resnick is a Senior Research Fellow in the Markets, Trade, and Institutions Unit and a Non-Resident Fellow in the Global Economy and Development Program at the Brookings Institution. Her research focuses on the political economy of agricultural policy and food systems, governance, and democratization, drawing on extensive fieldwork and policy engagement across Africa and South Asia.

Bayer-Monsanto: Are they coming for our seeds? (The Ken)

India’s digital news outlet, The Ken, published a news feature on the impact of German pharma-chemical company, Bayer, buying American agro-chemical and seeds company, Monsanto, on India’s domestic agricultural companies. The news article quotes IFPRI’s Senior Research Fellow, David Spielman, who advises constant monitoring to assess the effect of consolidation in the industry on input prices farmers pay. Spielman also points out that agricultural innovation, currently held back by regulation, holds immense potential.
