Kinya Kaibung’a is a Research Officer with the Development Strategies and Governance Unit, based in Nairobi, Kenya. She has a keen interest in leveraging machine learning, AI, and other cutting-edge technologies to boost climate resilience and food security in smart agriculture systems.

War-spawned food crisis spreading throughout the world (Audacy)

Audacy published a radio program on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and how a war has spawned real worry of a global food crisis. How impactful the Russia Ukraine conflict will be on countries around the world if farmers aren’t able to harvest this year was discussed. “By then, if farmers could not harvest due to lasting military operations, or if port facilities and railroads have been damaged, the situation will be particularly gloomy,” David Laborde, senior research fellow, said to The New York Times. “Many countries in North Africa and the Middle East are particularly dependent on wheat from Ukraine and Russia and likely to be hard hit.”
