Kinya Kaibung’a is a Research Officer with the Development Strategies and Governance Unit, based in Nairobi, Kenya. She has a keen interest in leveraging machine learning, AI, and other cutting-edge technologies to boost climate resilience and food security in smart agriculture systems.

Iván Hurtado is a Research Associate with HarvestPlus in the Agrifood Innovation and Resilience Unit, based at the CIAT campus in Palmira, Colombia. His work focuses on advancing the development and dissemination of biofortified varieties of beans, rice, maize, and cassava, as well as conducting statistical analyses to support crop improvement programs. He has contributed to the release of high-iron bean varieties in Colombia and has worked closely with farmers’ associations across different regions of the country. His research has also focused on assessing genetic gain and estimating the heritability of biofortified rice lines to support breeding strategies and variety development. Iván holds a bachelor’s degree in Agronomic Engineering and a master’s degree in Agricultural Sciences with a focus on Plant Breeding, both from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia.
