Blog Series: Financing Food Systems Transformation

Transforming food systems—the way we grow, distribute, and consume food— is critical for building a future that is food and nutrition secure, healthier, more equitable, and environmentally sustainable. Making this transformation a reality requires more than technological innovation and policy reforms—it calls for bold and strategic investments.

This special blog series, Financing Food Systems Transformation, takes a closer look at the scale and scope of financing needed to support this transition. It brings together finance specialists and practitioners from different institutions, governments, firms, and academia to examine current funding flows, identify gaps, and highlight practical and operational financial solutions needed to ensure lasting and inclusive change across global food systems. It is edited by Eugenio Diaz-Bonilla, Visiting Senior Research Fellow and Special Advisor, Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA); Ruth Hill, Markets, Trade, and Institutions Unit Director; Geeta Sethi, World Bank Advisor and Global Lead for Food Systems; and Johan Swinnen, IFPRI Director General.
