Timothy Thomas

Timothy Thomas is a Senior Research Fellow in the Foresight and Policy Modeling Unit. His research focuses on the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity. Tim’s work involves developing innovative methods for simulated climate futures and model coordination between climate, crop, water, energy, and economics.

The threat of higher diesel prices to grocery bills (Washington Examiner)

Washington Examiner quoted IFPRI Research Fellow Emeritus Joseph Glauber in the article on the impact of fuel prices on food prices. Glauber said that diesel prices “absolutely” have a significant impact on food prices. “So much of the cost is after it leaves the farm, so that’s where diesel comes in,” he explained. Glauber also noted that the prices farmers receive for their crops account for only about 25% of what consumers ultimately pay for food at the grocery store.
