  • 10:45 – 12:15 am (Asia/Kolkata)

The 2009 Global Hunger Index (GHI) report, prepared by IFPRI, Welthungerhilfe, and Concern, emphasizes the fundamental role that gender equality plays in the reduction and ultimate elimination of hunger. This seminar will highlight some key findings of the 2009 GHI report, and identify global trends and countries that have performed well in terms of reducing hunger, as well as those that have done poorly. The presentation will focus on how gender inequalities, particularly inequalities in education and health, contribute to global hunger across countries and regions. It will also identify policy responses that reduce gender inequality and yield the additional benefit of reducing global hunger.
