Progress and disappointment on climate change at COP27 (Packaging South Asia)

November 21, 2022

As COP27 ended, Packaging South Asia reported on the main takeaways from the days-long meeting. The article stated COP27 has been driven by two overriding themes: justice and ambition. The justice is for countries and populations who are dealing with the effects of climate change (flooding, droughts, etc., but not being the cause of climate change. The International Food Policy Research Institute’s 2022 Global Food Policy Report: Climate Change and Food Systems, suggests through models, that the number of Indians at risk from hunger in 2030 is expected to be 73.9 million. If the effects of climate change are factored in, the number of at-risk Indians climbs to 90.6 million. Additionally, India’s food production could drop by 16 percent. This modeling was developed with input from scientists from CGIAR and other leading global economic modeling efforts.
