High prices, low supply forcing many countries to BAN food exports (Natural News)

February 10, 2023

A recent blog by Natural News highlights how countries are managing supply and demand in the face of high food prices and limited supply resulting from severe weather conditions like the harsh winter in Uzbekistan and prolonged drought in Argentina, as well as the Russia-Ukraine war. Many countries have stopped exporting staple foods, fruits, and commodities in an attempt to cope. Russia, for example, has prohibited the export of sunflower seeds, implemented a 700,000-ton quota on sunflower meal, and halted exports of corn, rye, meslin, wheat, and barley. Similarly, data from IFPRI’s Food and Fertilizer Export Restrictions Tracker show that Turkey, Argentina, India, Malaysia, Serbia, Egypt, Iran, Tunisia, Pakistan, and Kuwait have also restricted their exports beyond the end of 2022. Argentina is the only country to lift its restrictions on corn and wheat exports as a result of domestic inflation.
