According to the UN Environment Programme, the global food system was the primary driver of the loss of biodiversity. “Expansion of agricultural areas has been a key factor in the degradation of nature, including forest habitats,” said Claudia Ringler, deputy director of the environment and production technology division. To better understand and analyze food security, this three-year research project will develop a comprehensive index assessing countries’ food security vulnerability, called the Jameel Index for Food Trade and Vulnerability.
