Lilia Bliznashka

Lily Bliznashka is a Research Fellow in the Nutrition, Diets, and Health Unit. Her research focuses on assessing the effectiveness of multi-input nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific interventions and the mechanisms through which they work to improve maternal and child health and nutrition globally. She has worked in Burkina Faso, Burundi, Tanzania, and Uganda.

War in Ukraine – Food crisis: world prices the “highest ever recorded”, the United Nations gives the alert (L’Independant)

L’Independant wrote in an article stating that the war in Ukraine could plunge millions of people into starvation in the coming months. Ukrainian grain supply problems, coupled with sanctions against Russia, are driving up prices. Even before Russian tanks entered Ukraine, world grain prices were already higher than they were during the 2007-2008 food crisis, researchers from IFPRI observed (see blog post, How will Russia’s invasion of Ukraine affect global food security?
