Agriculture is both a major driver of biodiversity loss and a crucial part of the solution. This seminar will present research and evidence underpinning the World Bank report Rooted: Agriculture Rooted in Biodiversity, which identifies why biodiversity is key for agriculture and examines the constraints, strategies, and investment pathways needed to harness biodiversity and make agriculture more resilient, sustainable, and productive.

This event will highlight how sustainable agriculture practice (SAP) bundles at the farm and landscape levels, the economics of their adoption, and enabling policy reforms can support the global scaling of context-tailored transitions in alignment with Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), and the Global Biodiversity Framework. Discussions will emphasize the implementation of scaling strategies through CGIAR’s Program on Multifunctional Landscapes (MFL) by linking geospatial baselines, monitoring, and finance to verified on-the-ground action. The seminar will also feature the importance of spatial analysis to identify priority areas, guide restoration planning, and track biodiversity and climate outcomes across landscapes.
