Avinash Kishore, IFPRI senior research fellow in New Delhi, was interviewed for the Al Jazeera‘s “Inside Story” program on the Iran war risks to global food security.
Kishore focused on the broader implications of the conflict and, more specifically, on India’s situation and the steps the Indian government is taking to manage the risks. He emphasized that fragility in food production is closely tied to fragility in trade and global interdependence, noting that open trade can help offset weaknesses in domestic production. However, he warned that the worst‑case scenario would be one in which both production and trade are disrupted simultaneously, greatly amplifying food security risks.

Other guests included Mourad Wahba, acting executive secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, and Steve Keen, economist and honorary professor at University College London
