Asked about China’s role in the commodity trade, Shenggen Fan (at 41:53) said. “Top leaders have made several important commitments in terms of bringing in certain commodities—importing such as soybeans, meat, etc., but that won’t do any good for the planet. China needs to look at the global supply chain and seek cooperation, infrastructure investment, work with importing countries to make sure it is sustainable. Chinese consumers must be aware of what they’re consuming and what that does to the globe.”
